Early Life And Career
In 2012, he starred in the short film Peace in Them to make his acting debut. Before landing a major part in the 2018 movie Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, Wi had a few modest roles in other movies. He made an appearance in Something in the Rain, a television series, in a supporting role that same year. In 2019, Wi co-starred with Lee Jong-suk, Lee Na-young, and Jung Yoo-jin in the TV show Romance Is a Bonus Book. Positive reviews were given to the series, and Wi's performance garnered him plaudits and a nomination for the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards' Best New Actor - Television category. Based on the American film 17 Again, Wi starred as a well-known baseball player in the 2020 television series 18 Again.

In 2021, Wi gained global notoriety for his performance in the popular Netflix series Squid Game, where he played Hwang Jun-ho, a police officer who enters the game covertly in an attempt to locate his brother who has gone missing. Critics commended the cast's acting, and the programme took home several honours, including the Grand Prize at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards and six Primetime Emmy Awards. Wi will play Hwang Jun-ho again in the second season of the drama, which was renewed for a second time in 2024. Alongside Lee Dong-wook in the TV series Bad and Crazy, Wi also portrayed a serial murderer in the suspense film Midnight in 2021. Wi made a comeback in 2022 with the Little Women Netflix series.
